"The Mexican Dream" is a series inspired by the Indigenous culture of Oaxaca Mexico. Many of the little paintings are based on traditional dances of "Guelaguetza" and the rituals of "Day of the Dead"
All the paintings are watercolor over paper with India Ink.

I enjoy working in traditional pen& ink, I do scan my work and finish it in Photoshop and Illustrator. Most of my work is B&W, I think its just a great element. Plus I love old B&W sci-fi and crime movies.

Published in Dark Horse Presents. These pages were colored out of order, so I'm not entirely sure how best to present them.

Digital abstract images created by Visual Artist Frank Bonilla. All images been been digitally created, or enhanced, on the computer. Some images started as an actual photograph of an item, and now looks nothing like the original.
Other images started in my mind, and were created on the computer only.

This was my first book cover, for my third published book. I was dissatisfied with the stock covers used by the publisher as not evocative of the material, so I bought a set of paints and got back into illustration after 20 years. This book is available through Amazon or direct from the pulisher (www.cambridgebooks.us). Let me know what you think!

This is an art project I've been working on for 10 years, also a book has been in the works and it is very close to completion. Most of these pieces are available as 24x24 prints all the way up to 4x4feet.
Next time you shop for your next outfit or walk to your favorite eating hole you may walk over spray-painted markings, wild arrows, crosses, names, and strange acronyms that make up a graffiti language that’s actually on the street and sidewalks.
These marks tell us that jackhammers and backhoes are coming. Days before any urban dig starts, a city worker marks up the designated area, using white spray paint to alerts the local underground notification service center. The center puts out a call to the telephone company, electric companies, water-works and cable outfits that subscribe to the service.
Underground Service Alert (USA) and Dig Alert have been serving excavators, professional contractors and homeowners for more than 25 years.
If you know the language, you can visualize the spiderweb architecture that exist underground. Here are the symbols and the underground facility types.
Red denotes Street Lighting, Electric and Traffic Signals.
Yellow highlights Gas, Oil, Steam and Chemical.
Blue is for fresh Water.
Green indicates Sewer and Storm Drain.
Purple flags Reclaimed Water, Irrigation and Slurry.
Pink is used for Temporary Survey Markings.
Orange tags mark where communications or cable TV lines are.
Some acronyms, like S8C or MCI, are obvious; others aren’t. IP, means “Iron Pipe” USA stands for “Underground Service Alert”.
The three photos on the left are the photos my daughter took back in 2004 and the photo on the previouse page is the photo I took few days later when I began to photograph these urban runes in the Los Angeles county.
